Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is a parish ministry of prayer before the Eucharistic presence of Jesus Christ reserved in the tabernacle. It is one way that we choose to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. Those who participate in this ministry commit to one hour of prayerful adoration each week before the Blessed Sacrament. The goal is to have one person, for one hour at a time, in the Reservation Chapel every hour of every day in prayer before the Eucharist.
Adoration can include private prayer, meditation, reading from the Bible, spiritual reading, and intercessory prayer for ourselves and others. There is no set prayer; the most important prayer is that which comes from the heart. There is a Book of Intentions located in the chapel in which one may inscribe personal requests. There is also a book of Prayers Answered should you choose to indicate an answer received.
Pope
John Paul II tells us
in Dominicae Cenae:
"Jesus waits for
us in this sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our
time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation
that is full of faith and ready to make reparation for
the great faults and crimes of the world. May our adoration
never cease."
And that is what Perpetual Adoration is: adoration that NEVER ceases!
Our parish started a response to this call in June, 2004. Since that time, many hours have been spent in prayerful adoration to our Lord. A person who chooses to participate (referred to as an Adorer) in this ministry will commit to one hour of prayer once a week throughout the year.
Prayer of Adoration
Heavenly Father, deepen our faith in your Son, Jesus Christ. May his presence in the Eucharist draw us to him so that we may be living witnesses of his love to others. We adore your Son and we acknowledge his life, his ministry, his gift of love in the Eucharist. Help us to turn from sin. Make us aware of the presence of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. May the continued guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit encourage others to participate in this ministry of prayer.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
